March art

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but Sophia's class studies a different theme each month. They studied the Wild Wild West in March and in April she will begin to learn about Beatrix Potter and all kinds of bunnies (Easter included). On Friday Sophia came home with this awesome "wanted" photo - taken earlier in the month. Her teacher is so creative!

They had a party this past Friday to wrap up the unit. Sophia wore her light denim blue shirt, jeans and her lavender bandana around her neck. She looked so cute! Mrs. Peeler sent home this class photo today...it was taken during their party (Sophia is on the right side)...at this point the class was having a marshmallow roast around a camp fire.

Lilly brought home two "green" things this month - a glittered shamrock and a tin foil finger painting in honor of St. Patrick's Day! Plus, I saw some construction paper kites hung on the wall in her classroom today when I picked her up so I guess they got to do some fun decorating today.

My lovely dancers

The girls are really enjoying their dance classes. Sometimes they just look so darned cute I have to take their picture on the way out the door.

Will's birthday

Will celebrated his 35th birthday on Friday. It was an extremely low key celebration. He asked for pizza for dinner...easy! We skipped the presents this year, but did manage to produce a home-made card (a la Sophia) and a cake after the pizza dinner. Sophia was in one of her moods and refused to join us for singing or a even a slice of cake. Instead she sat upstairs by herself and cried.

Because we wanted her to be part of the celebration, but didn't have time to wait for her to cooperate (because the girls and I had tickets to see Annie, the musical, that evening and needed to leave the house by 6:15) we plopped her photograph beside Will and pretended she was there. Lilly, of course, couldn't wait to devour a piece of cake. She helped Will blow the candles out on his cake and then enjoyed a big slice.

Oh my gosh....

Sophia has an adult tooth! And a second one about to break through the gums. Both are behind the two bottom front baby teeth.

I noticed the tooth about a week ago and took her to the dentist today for her 6-month check-up. [A side note: The last two times I took her for a check-up she cried and wouldn't let the dental assistant even look inside her mouth. This appointment was a success. She had a cleaning, flossed and even let them paint on a vitamin.]

Will and I were both paranoid that this tooth was abnormal, but the dentist assured me that everything looks "ok". This strange occurance has a name. It's called having shark teeth (because sharks have multiple sets of teeth and they all appear behind the existing sets). Normally kids loose their first tooth at age 6. She won't be 5 until May so it's pretty early. Luckily the bottom two teeth are a little bit loose so the dentist said that if she wiggles them they should fall out naturally. I would hate to have to have them pulled.

With this all said, Sophia now thinks she's an adult. She's been using the " but I'm an adult" answer for a number of her recent behaviors (like using the scissors which I have cleverly hidden).

Getting wet

Well, water play is still one of the favorite activities in our household. It was in the mid-70's today and the girls spent some time on the deck with the hose. They were filling up Tupperware bowls and watering some dead plants from last summer. They both came inside soaking wet, but they had a great time!

Lately Lilly has been really fascinated with water. She's been filling tons of plastic dishes and cups up with water and "cleaning" with toilet paper. She'll clean anything: books, the fancy couch, her baby dolls, the play kitchen, etc. You can imagine the mess because the toilet paper disintegrates immediately when it gets wet! I've learned that waiting until it dries is best. Then I can use the vacuum to really clean up the mess.

Make-up

Since the girls are constantly going into my make-up and perfume I figured we'd have a beauty hour today. Sophia did Lilly's make-up...and she actually looks really pretty. Lilly did Sophia's make-up. They both "worked" on my face...and I looked good at first until Sophia decided to get carried away and covered my face in eye shadow. They also did my hair.

I hope nobody comes over tonight.

I love this picture.

Lilly's school conference

In addition to running the entire book fair at Lilly's school last week (which seriously sucked about 20 hours of my time) I also attended her spring parent/teacher conference.

Here's another strike against her school. The front cover of her "report card" had her name spelled wrong. Instead of Lilly, the teacher wrote Lily. At the beginning of the year they called her Lillian, so they DO know how to spell her name. It's never been wrong before...but come on!

She's doing well. Ms. Brenda told me that Lilly is a really caring little girl, she likes to play pretend and she absolutely loves books.

She did it again

She has to climb up on a stool to reach the scissors, but that didn't stop Sophia from cutting her hair again! She definitely got an earful this time, but I honestly thought I had gotten through to her the last time she cut her hair. Once again, she hid the hair (in her stuffed animal bin). She really did a botch job this time. One side is cut back to the ear...too far to actually try to make bangs out of the snip. The other side is a little bit more blended in, but it still looks really bad. I have yet to get a photo of her new style. Every time I look at her I just can't believe it.

Pretty Nails

The girls asked me to paint their nails the other day. They picked one of my bottles - bright pink. I put the lightest coat on that I could...it's still there.

Playing outside

It was gorgeous today. Sophia woke me up by running into my room and announcing that Spring was here. The trees that line our street all have pretty pink flowers on them and today she noticed how pretty they are.

We didn't have a single thing to do today so the girls spent the day wearing whatever they wanted and playing outside.

Gotta love the Bean

Sophia and her stuffies

Sophia still loves her stuffed animals. She's always been way more fond of stuffed animals than baby dolls. (Lilly is the opposite and can't get enough of her baby dolls).

Sophia especially loves cat and dog stuffed animals. We were in the Disney store the other day and she made me promise that she would get Pongo and Perdita (from 101 Dalmations) for her birthday. 101 Dalmations is actually one of her favorite movies so I know she'll play with them. She got Lady and Tramp for Christmas and they are still two of her most loved stuffies.

Dressed alike

The girls look so cute today. They are dressed alike and even have matching hair bows.

However, Lilly wouldn't stand with Sophia for a photo so this is the best I could get. I resorted to begging, but eventually gave up before I bribed them.

Attic

I spent all morning in the attic yesterday trying to "organize" all of the baby clothes, toys, and accessories that we are saving for our siblings. And, for the first time, I agree with Will. We are OUT OF SPACE!! I also have 4 bins of Sophia's old clothes that Lilly will grow into in the next few years, but even if we didn't have those up in the attic, it would still be full.

So, I need one or more of the following to happen:
Claire and Craig need to move back so I can unload some things on them.
Christina and Rob need to get on the ball and have a baby.
OR
Meg and Daniel need to take the plunge (on April 1) and then hurry up and have a baby.

Any takers????

Lilly's winter art work

Lilly brought home 4 pieces of art work from school today. I'm assuming the class is moving on to "spring" crafts because the ones she brought home today were all related to winter. Her teacher tried to impress me this morning by asking Lilly if this was a glove or a mitten. To my knowledge Lilly already knew the difference between the two....but Ms. Brenda sure was happy that Lilly answered correctly.
